From time to time, an event occurs that seems even more magical than the best fairy tale. The recent events on the Britians Got Talent 2009 show is exactly one of those events. If you haven't seen Susan Boyle's performance of I Dreamed a Dream, you can find it on YouTube. Take the time to watch it. Something deep inside of me is deeply touched as I listen to her sing. Apparently it has resonated with other people as well. The various videos of her performance have been watched over 11 million times since the show.
Her story is such a living parable. When she came on stage, people had no idea of what lay underneath her plain appearance and her slightly goofy manner. When she shared her dream, the audience responds derisively. Yet the moment her voice pierces through the cynicism, people respond with cheers. She sings of a dream shattered, of love lost. Somehow her story seems to touch the heart of the listeners, her voice soaring above the disillusionment. In that moment she seems to sing from the heart of God.
Yet is this not like God? We judge by appearances. Yet most frequently God is found in unlikely places. Keep your eyes open, you may just find God in unexpected places!

I too watched the performance of Susan Boyle with tears running down my face. I see myself in that plain face of hers. For years I have been known as the plain girl or simple. Why do people peg us as such? God sees us as so much more. Only recently have I begun to grasp who I really am as a child of God. A beautiful creation. Created by Him and for Him. Sadly though, it is the Christians who have been the harshest critics. Why? Thank you to you and your wife for seeing past the "plainness" and bringing out the God given beauty in me!
All I can say is that I am sorry for the way "Christians" acted toward you. Jesus spent a lot of time with the fringe people, the plain people, and the common people. You are beautiful.
Yes Glen and Bev. I too want to thank you both for not giving up on My wife and myself! If you would have looked at the picture the way MOST people did, we would not be here today. For me many years ago you believed in me and that made me believe. Not only in me, but in the God that was in me and Changing me to be more like Him. That has challenged Katie and I to want to be like the people God used to make us run after Him.... YOU GUYS!!!
Thanks for not being like others and being who God made you!!
